When Pandora opened Pandora's Box, she let out all the evils except one: Hope. Apparently the Greeks considered Hope to be as dangerous as all the world's evils. But without hope to accompany all their troubles, humanity was filled with despair. It was a great relief when Pandora revisited her box and let out hope as well.

I don't know if you remember Hope, but she was the roommate in the apartment when you and Emily met Catherine. Well, she had a daughter and volunteered to be a reference for Catherine.

Also, I started reading The Audacity of Hope. I enjoyed Barack Obama's 2004 keynote address of the same title, and am interested in his candidacy. Are you following politics lately, Nate?

Not too closely. Just the usual NYT, WP, NPR, Daily Show stuff.

Emily has often refered to Obama as my 'boyfriend' though. Which is a great way to get under my Libertarian skin.

The 2004 keynote speeches were the tipping point in me changing my party affiliation from Libertarian to Democrat, though I still consider myself to a "small-l libertarian".

If I had to vote today, I would back Barack, but I want to read his second book before I fully commit my vote or volunteer for him.

Yeah, I'm just interested in how America responds to Obama and Hillary.

It's going to be a long, long road.

Is this some other Emily? I can't believe I'd say that unless it was a total joke.

Back in 2004, just before the keynote, you used to tease me about obsessively following and talking about Obama.

This will likely be the one and only time my memory works better than yours.
