A wifi ipod... that's what I'm waiting for. Cause while washing dishes, I have used Emily's wireless ibook to listen to the audio stream off of my computer.

They'll probably call it iRadio or Radio 2.0 or something even stupider.

There are already wifi devices you can plug into your stereo that can play networked iTunes playlists.

I mean, link(s) please.

(And I did actually mean, an iPod that can do the wifi thing on its own, without itunes.)

So you could listen to audio streams in the subway, at a coffee place, &c.

There's talk of digital signals over TV broadcast frequencies. I think they could do the same with radio. That would free up a lot of bandwidth.

The FCC should consider licensing those frequencies not to individual broadcasters, but to bandwidth brokers. Let the radio waves be run like an ISP, so that a lot more people could buy a chunk instead of just major networks. Let the people now doing audio streams over IP also buy some local airwaves and put on a show. Community-centered and all that.

Because, I mean, you can already listen to "audio streams" at the coffee place. It's called radio, it sucks, and nobody listens to it anymore.

And download podcasts without itunes.

(I know this is contrary to the whole mac-as-digital-hub thing, but I'm not a believer in that idea.)

Did you just say audio stream wirelessly while doing dishes? I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to ask you to stop watching me through the window. Nothing says streamed "This American Life" like Dawn Dish Detergent. "And now we have a touching story of an underprivileged inner city youth from Detroit winning the regional science fair when he discovered a new dish cleaning chemical."

I was just wondering what will outdate the ipod I will (hopefully) get for Christmas! Luckily the idea does not intrigue me TOO much.
