I'm about to leave the Kosmos Cartography Lab at HSU for good.

It has been my first, second and third home for two years now.

This is the room I have stared into some gorgeous flatscreens on countless all-nighters sitting in the comfy chairs that an anonymous donor donated from (presumably) embezzled university funds.

This is the room where I conducted my first class (with shaky legs and rapid verbosity). Though I've learned a lot of technical things here, it is the interpersonal stuff that I really value this lab for.

And this is the room where I first found out how incredibly fucking rad it is to do cartography at this point in history.

But I can really only hope that I'm leaving off something better for all the future cartography students.

...it's weird to tear up about a computer lab, right?

1 this is the same reason i can't get rid of my old jobs - i love having my studio in DC despite being full time at another job i love. loving work is not a feeling i ever expected.

2 it's great to find an artistic angle of technology that's still a frontier. there's still so much to do with cartography.

not weird at all. i got the same thing when i said goodbye to theater arts; the theaters, the computer lab, the hallways. they all made me feel sad at saying goodbye to the one home that has been constant for the past five years.
