On eminent digital musical conflagration...

Last week or so, I started to pick which albums are the most personally important to me. The ones I can listen to over and over again. Fun stuff.

But then my mp3 external drive started making click-of-death noises and I realized I had to backup post-haste.

Practically speaking (and for purposes of this post), I can only backup about half of my collection.

It's like having to pick which of the orphans to save from the house fire.

I delete my own masters every other month to make room for more recordings, but there's something about 86ing a sizable and lovely Alan Lomax collection that's just upsetting.

So I think I'll just stick to my desert island recordings for now and hope the drive boots up tomorrow when the replacement drive comes in and I backup everything on there.

I'm sorry, this is totally unrelated, but I read about this and it totally made me think of you.

Enjoy!
