Tonight, Emily listened to SMiLE and started watching Star Wars for the first time tonight.

These are what are called Big Little Things.

Awesome. Original trilogy, I hope?

Arkmay asked me that too. And I'll reply similarly...

WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING TO?!?!?

I bought a new 19" LCD (open-box deal) to watch it with cause my old and trusty 15" wasn't cutting it.

FYI, the original theatrical release in 2:1 is available on the bonus discs to the most recent DVD releases. Netflix has it. Probably the only time I'm going to get just the bonus disc.

One caveat: it is 221:100 encoded as 4:3 because they wanted to give people something to complain about.

I've also heard there's been no cleanup/color correction during the digital transfer -- the suspicion that it's a deliberately low quality transfer so they can come out with yet another version in a few years.

I have this memory of subplot2 talking about going to watch Star Wars for the first time a year or more ago, and you were only able to get the Special Edition versions. Am I on crack? Did that happen?

No, I couldn't bring myself to watch the Special Ed. versions.

I wonder who I'm thinking of instead. I remember someone saying they were going to show their girlfriend/boyfriend Star Wars for the first time and I had a conversation about the importance of introducing people to it with the originals and not the Special Editions. I can't find it in any LJ comments, so it was something done on the phone or in person. My memory sucks.

No, you're right. We watched Episodes III & IV in 2005.

Nate's on crack.

Ok, that's what I remember. I couldn't imagine that there was more than one person on my friends list who hadn't seen them. I guess I couldn't find the LJ comments (emails) because I didn't use the words "Lucas" or "star wars" or "trilogy".

Yeah, we talked about it.

But I couldn't show her anything but the theatrical releases.
